MARQUETTE, Mich. – Michigan Tech fell 4-1 at Northern Michigan on Friday (Feb. 2). Matthew Campbell scored the lone goal for the Huskies as they fall to 11-12-5 overall and 8-8-1 in the CCHA

"It's obviously disappointing. When it's a big game and we have an opportunity to come out and play the way we want to play, and then we come out and do the opposite," Tech assistant coach Tyler Shelast said. "You know they're going to come out with a lot of energy, and it's on us to match it and play with that same intensity."

NMU (9-13-3, 7-9-1 CCHA) jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two goals in the first and one in the second. Michael Mesic opened scoring 13:17 into the game after stealing the puck in the offensive zone and finishing off a 2-on-1 with Mitch Deelstra.

Artem Shlaine gave the Wildcats a two-goal lead when he camped above the crease and put in a rebound at 18:15 of the first. Kevin Marx Noren and Josh Zinger assisted on the play.

Rylan Van Unen went top shelf on a breakaway for a three-goal lead for the home team 8:01 into the second period. Artem Shlaine and Matvei Kabanov assisted on the play.

Matthew Campbell got the Huskies on the board 12:27 into the second with a long one-timer through traffic on the power play. Isaac Gordon assisted on Campbell's fourth of the season to extend his point streak to five games, and Logan Pietila added the secondary helper.

Artem Shlaine scored his second of the night from Kevin Marx Noren and Kristof Papp for the final tally of the night.

NMU led in shots 32-22. Seven different Huskies had two shots on goal in the game.

Arvid Caderoth hit the crossbar late in the first period and was denied on a backhand attempt on a breakaway early in the second.

Blake Pietila made 28 saves and Beni Halasz stopped 21 shots for the home team.

Tech Huskies were 1-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill.

The two teams will wrap up the season series back in Houghton at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena at 6:07 p.m. on Saturday.
