SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Michigan Tech earned a CCHA weekend split at Lake Superior State on Saturday (Jan. 27) with a 1-0 shutout of the Lakers. Blake Pietila earned his 21st career shutout with 26 saves, and Ryland Mosley scored the game's lone goal.

"I'm very happy with the win and proud of the guys for how hard they competed," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "Lake State is a good team. They're big and compete all game and pushed especially hard after we scored. We got a great goaltending performance out of Blake, and hopefully, we can grow off of this win."

Scoreless entering the third period, Ryland Mosley broke the seal 7:36 into the frame with his 12th goal of the season. The Huskies created a turnover in the offensive zone and Logan Pietila picked up the puck. He fed it to the middle for Isaac Gordon who made a quick pass to Ryland Mosley for a one-timer. The Huskies celebrated into the mass of Michigan Tech students who made the trip east.

LSSU (12-14-1, 9-9-1 CCHA) pulled its goaltender, looking for the equalizer with 1:31 left in the third, but the Huskies iced the puck down the rink three times and ran out the clock. Blake didn't need to make a save in the final 5:00.

Tech had a 34-26 advantage in shots. Austen Swankler led with five shots for the Huskies and Isaac Gordon got four on net.

The teams combined for 11 minor penalties and both coaches unsuccessfully used their reviews on potential majors.

The Huskies play another UP-rival, Northern Michigan, next weekend for the second time this season. The teams will meet in Marquette on Friday and Houghton on Saturday.
