GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – No. 16 Michigan Tech fell 8-1 to No. 18 Western Michigan in the 56th Great Lakes Invitational Semifinal at Van Andel Arena Tuesday. Kash Rasmussen scored the lone goal for the Huskies.

"It was very disappointing and very humbling," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "The biggest disappointment for me is the lack of us being able to understand who we are and try to not be something we're not. We had a number of scoring chances but left our goaltenders out to dry."

Tech is 11-6-3 overall and will play in the GLI Third Place game at 3:37 p.m. Wednesday against No. 11 Michigan State.

The Broncos improved to 11-9-1, snapping a four-game unbeaten streak. They scored one goal in the first, six in the second, and one in the third.

Jason Polin opened scoring 6:49 into the game after tapping in a backdoor pass from Ryan McAllister.

WMU scored three goals in just over 2:00 early in the second right after a breakaway by Kash Rasmussen. Grant Cole scored the second and fourth goals for the team in brown, and Jason Polin added his second of the night for the third goal.

Wyatt Schingoethe made it 7-0 12:28 into the second. Dylan Wendt rounded out scoring for the Broncos 6:32 into the third.

Kash Rasmussen scored his 5th of the season 10:26 into the third when he put in a rebound out front. Nick Nardella assisted on the play.

Western led in shots 33-25. Tristan Ashbrook hit the crossbar early in the game, Logan Pietila had a shorthanded breakaway that went wide, and Ryland Mosley went in alone early in the second that was saved.

Blake Pietila had 13 saves in the first 31:13 and Max Vayrynen stopped 12 shots in the final 28:42.
