HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech scored early in often in a 6-0 shutout of Lakehead University Monday evening at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Ryland Mosley had a goal and three assists, and Max Vayrynen made 15 saves to earn the shutout win in his first game for the Huskies.

"I liked the effort again," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "Mosley's line is developing chemistry. They're winning battles and got some help from their defensemen tonight to set up some of those goals.

"Max is the real deal and we have some serious goaltending depth. He made some incredible side-to-side saves tonight."

Kyle Kukkonen got the scoring started as he buried his second of the weekend 4:13 into the game when he one-touched in a pass from Logan Pietila. Ryland Mosley had the secondary assist.

Kash Rasmussen made it 2-0 on the power play at 12:01 of the first when he cleaned up a loose puck in the crease. Kyle Kukkonen and Jed Pietila assisted on Rasmussen's first collegiate goal.

Ryland Mosley scored 9:54 into the second with a power play goal. Logan Pietila fed Mosley on a one-timer and Jed Pietila started the passing play with his second point of the night.

"It feels good to help the team out and get the dub," Mosley said. "Logan and Kyle are really easy to play with. We just need to keep grinding to create plays and get scoring chances."

Logan Pietila made it 4-0 in favor of the Huskies with a shot through traffic at 14:13 of the second. Ryland Mosley created the turnover on the sidewall for the assist.

"Anytime you can score it feels good," Pietila said. "I think our line developed more chemistry today, and we're excited to get the regular season going this weekend."

Logan Pietila scored his second of the game on a one-timer from Ryland Mosley and Frank Dovorany 9:15 into the third.

The Swedes connected on Tech's final goal as Marcus Pedersen fed Arvid Caderoth out front for a chip over the goaltender 1:10 later. Jake Crespi was credited with the second assist.

Tech outshot Lakehead 47-15. Max Vayrynen made two saves in the first, eight in the second, and 15 in the third. Brock Aiken had 41 saves for the Thunderwolves, including one on a Jake Crespi shorthanded breakaway in the second period.

The Huskies were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill and 2-for-4 on the power play after the teams combined for seven penalties.

Tech travels downstate to begin the regular season at Ferris State on Friday. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. at Ewigleben Ice Arena. The Huskies wrap up the weekend with an exhibition game at USNTDP on Saturday at 7 p.m.
