Huskies ranked No. 20 in USCHO Preseason Poll

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech hockey team is ranked No. 20 in the Preseason DCU/USCHO.com Top 20 poll which was released Monday (Sept. 19). The Huskies also received votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

Tech hosts a pair of exhibition games at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena to begin the season with Lake Superior State on Saturday, October 1 and Lakehead on Monday, October 3. The first regular season game is October 7 at Ferris State and the first CCHA series is October 21-22 when Bemidji State comes to Houghton.

Fourteen Huskies returners saw significant ice time last season with Logan Pietila (23), Brett Thorne (17), Tristan Ashbrook (16), Arvid Caderoth (16), Ryland Mosley (13) being the top returning point-getters. Goaltender Blake Pietila was an All-CCHA Second Team pick last season and ranked seventh in goals-against average. NCAA Division I transfers Ryan O'Connell, Jack Works, and David Jankowski have plenty of game experience, and freshman NHL draft pick Kyle Kukkonen will also be an exciting talent on the ice for the Black and Gold.

Tech finished No. 14 in the final poll at the end of the 2021-22 season after a 21-13-3 overall record and an at-large bid to the 2022 NCAA Division I Hockey Tournament. The Huskies were the No. 2 seed in the CCHA Mason Cup Playoffs with a 16-8-2 mark. Tech received votes in every poll throughout last season and climbed as high as No. 13 on March 7 in the USCHO poll.

The DCU/USCHO.com Division I Men's Ice Hockey Poll is compiled weekly and consists of 50 voters, including coaches and media professionals from across the country. DCU (DCU.org), a not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by and operated for its members, is the sponsor of this poll. DCU serves more than 900,000 members and their families in all 50 states.

The 27th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey.
