SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – No. 19 Michigan Tech earned a CCHA sweep of Lake Superior State after a 3-0 shutout Saturday for the second straight game. Tech scored three power-play goals in the second half of the game, and Blake Pietila got his fifth shutout with 11 saves.

"We made a little change on the power play in the second, and then we scored on our last three power plays," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "That was the difference in the game. It was a big win and a big weekend."

Tech pounded 23 shots on goal through the first two periods. The Huskies finally broke the seal 12:43 into the second period on their fourth power play of the game when Logan Pietila put in a rebound after a shot by Brian Halonen. It was Pietila's eighth of the season with Justin Misiak also assisting on the play.

Eric Gotz added to the lead with a power-play goal 6:44 into the third. Trenton Bliss found him wide open, and he picked the top corner over the blocker for his first of the season and the ninth of his career. Colin Swoyer also assisted.

Alec Broetzman made it 3-0 with a one-timer in the slot from Arvid Caderoth and Trenton Bliss. For Broetzman, it was his third of the season and the 17th power-play goal of his career.

Tech outshot LSSU 29-11. Tristan Ashbrook hit the post in the first period and Tommy Parrottino had a chance that was steered aside by Ethan Langenegger in the second.

Pietila made one save in the first and five in each of the second two periods to pick up the eighth shutout of his career. He hasn't allowed LSSU to score on him in 180 minutes.

Tech was 3-for-6 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill and improved to 12-8-1 overall and 9-5 in the CCHA.

Justin Misiak tied Richard Novak (1984-89) games played record as he appeared in his 165th career game in a Michigan Tech uniform. Misiak had three points on the weekend with a goal and two assists.

Tech plays Northern Michigan next weekend. The Huskies and Wildcats will meet in Marquette Friday at 6:37 p.m. and Houghton at 6:07 p.m. Saturday. General admission tickets are on sale for Saturday's game and both contests will be televised on TV6.
