Dylan Steman signs ATO with Hershey Bears

HERSHEY, Pa. – Michigan Tech senior forward Dylan Steman signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Hersey Bears the team announced on Wednesday (March 27). Hershey is the primary American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Washington Capitals.

Steman, a native of Hanover, Minnesota, played 154 career games for the Huskies over five seasons. He tallied 70 points on 27 goals and 43 assists. He was a four-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete, team co-captain in 2018-19, and alternate captain in 2017-18.

Steman had 13 points on four goals and nine assists in 2018-19. He scored two goals against Bemidji State (Dec. 1) and had a goal and an assist on the game-winner at Ferris State (Nov. 10).

Steman played in a career-high 43 games, tallying 19 points on seven goals and 12 assists in 2017-18 and was named to the Ice Vegas Invitational All-Tournament Team after recording a goal and an assist each night. He assisted on the game-winning goal at Alaska (Nov. 25), versus Alaska (Jan. 19) and at home in both games of the WCHA First Round sweep at Bemidji State (March 2-3).

In 2016-17, Steman played in the first 12 games, scoring two goals and adding a pair of assists before a season-ending injury. He missed the first 16 games of 2015-16 before appearing in 21 games. He scored six goals and tallied eight assists.

As a freshman in 2014-15, Steman received the Terry Wilson Award, as Michigan Tech's top freshmen student-athlete across all sports. He ranked eighth on the team with 20 points (8 goals, 12 assists) while skating in all 41 outings. Steman was named the WCHA's Rookie of the Week after he collected two points in his opening-weekend of college hockey at Lake Superior State.

Steman was part of a group that took the Huskies to three NCAA Tournaments, won a pair of WCHA Tournament Titles, won the MacNaughton Cup as WCHA regular season champs, and were ranked the No. 1 team in the nation in 2014-15 after a program-best 10-0 start. Tech also won the Desert Hockey Classic in 2015-16 and the 2018 Ice Breaker Championship.

Prior to his time at Tech, Steman played 114 games with Cedar Rapids of the USHL. In two seasons with the RoughRiders he tallied 62 points on 24 goals and 38 assists. He was the alternate captain in 2013-14. Steman also played two seasons for Maple Grove High School and had 100 points in 50 games.

The Hershey Bears have nine games remaining in the regular season and currently sit fourth in the Atlantic Division with a 36-24-3-4 record. The top four teams in each of the AHL's four divisions will qualify for the 2019 Calder Cup Playoffs.
