Tech Hops Up To No. 3 In Both Polls This Week
HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech, that nation's hottest team, was bumped up to No. 3 in both the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. The Huskies have the most wins in the country with a 24-7-1 overall record and travel to No. 2 Minnesota State for a showdown between the WCHA's top two teams.
Tech received two first-place votes in the USCHO Poll and one in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll and moved up a spot from last week's No. 4 ranking. It is the 15th week the Huskies have been in the polls. They have been in the top 11 all 15 weeks and were ranked No. 1 on Nov. 17.
The Huskies sit one point behind Minnesota State in the WCHA standings. Tech is 19-4-1 in the WCHA while the Mavericks are 19-3-2 in league play and 23-6-2 overall. Both teams enter the series after a bye week. The two teams met Nov. 21-22 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena with MSU winning 2-1 and 3-2. The puck drops at 8:07 p.m. Friday and Saturday night from the Verizon Wireless Center.
