MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball team couldn't overcome a high shooting outing from Northern Michigan, falling 98-66 inside the Berry Events Center on Saturday afternoon.

"I thought as a whole, our offense was a little better–we didn't make any shots but I thought we took good shots," head coach Josh Buettner said. "Obviously a kid like Max goes crazy--offensively, I felt like we moved the ball and got good enough shots. The days they don't go in we need to rely on defense and we didn't have it today."

Michigan Tech (6-12, 3-6 GLIAC) played even with Northern Michigan (16-5, 9-0) through the first 10 minutes of action. Dan Gherezgher and Dawson Nordgaard got to work early, contributing 14 of the Huskies first 20 points.

The Wildcats then quickly strung together a 7-0 stanza over the next minute and a half before the Huskies made it a three-point game with back-to-back buckets from Nordgaard at the 5:12 mark (31-28).

Dylan Kuehl got the hot hand for the Wildcats, scoring seven consecutive points to jump out to an eight-point edge. Max Weisbrod scored four of his game-leading 35 points down the stretch in the first half to give NMU a 44-33 advantage heading into the break.

Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field in the first half. Northern Michigan continued to climb in the second half. The Wildcats shot an astonishing 64 percent in the second 20 minutes, pouring in 54 points. Additionally, NMU shot 9-for-15 from long range in the second half.

Michigan Tech would cut the lead to single digits following an old-fashioned 3-point play by Marcus Tomashek with 13:25 to play (60-51). From that point, the Wildcats' fast pace was too much for the Huskies quickly jumping out to an 8-2 run over the next two minutes.

NMU sustained a sizable lead with an acrobatic fadeaway 3-pointer by Weisbrod as the shot clock expired, sinking the Huskies with 7:07 to play down by 24 points.

The Wildcats continued to pour on the offense, showing the final score 98-66.

Marcus Tomashek led the Huskies offensively with 18 points and Dawson Nordgaard recorded a team-high six rebounds to go with 14 points. Pete Calcaterra and Dan Gherezgher also added 10 points apiece.

Northern Michigan was led offensively by Max Weisbrod with 35 points, as Carson Smith added 21. Sam Schultz recorded a double-double with 11 points and a team-leading 13 rebounds.
