Lakers Shooting Success Outmatches Huskies Play Video

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball team met a red-hot Lake Superior State team, who shot 62.5 percent from the field to cruise past the Huskies, 78-55, inside the SDC Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

"It felt like we came out okay the first couple minutes but from the 15 minute mark to the final minute, we didn't compete," head men's basketball coach Josh Buettner said. "Credit to Lake State, they can really shoot the basketball and they execute their game probably better than anyone in the league right now. They made some shots but there was a lack of us being there defensively. We competed better in the second half and I think we did the competing part but I don't know if we were putting our best basketball out there–at least they fought until the end."

Through 20 minutes of action, Lake Superior State (10-5,2-3 GLIAC) shot an astonishing 73.9 percent from the field while going 5-of-9 from beyond the arc and 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

Michigan Tech (5-10, 2-4 GLIAC) took seven more shots yet only went 10-of-30 from the field in the first half, with Marcus Tomashek scoring a team-leading 12 points to trail 46-29 entering halftime.

The scoring was more balanced in the second half as the Lakers scored 32 points compared to the Huskies 26, although the deficit was too big to recover from in the second half.

Michigan Tech cut the deficit to 17 points off a jumper from Adam Hobson with 7:29 to play, but LSSU would sustain a sizable lead before expanding back to over 20 points by the end of the game.

Logan Geissler played 14 minutes off the bench, producing a team-leading four steals while chipping in three rebounds and five points in the second half.

Tomashek had a team-leading 16 points while shooting 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Dawson Nordgaard posted a team-high six rebounds for the Huskies while chipping in 10 points.

Kingsley Perkins posted 29 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lakers. Tyson Edmondson joined Perkins in double-figure scoring with 21 points on 6-of-6 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
