Tech Men’s Hoops Outlasted by Missouri S&T on Saturday, 75-72

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball team was unable to hold off a late-game push by Missouri S&T, ultimately falling short of victory at the JustAGame Crossover on Saturday afternoon.

"I thought we competed hard today but came up short in the end," head coach Josh Buettner said. "S&T is a good team and attacked hard, we needed to make them work a little harder defensively on a few possessions but the effort was there."

The Huskies were down by six with less than two minutes remaining in regulation and stormed back to bring it within one from an and-1 by Marcus Tomashek with 39 minutes to go. However, The Miners hit a jump shot on the next possession to seal the win after a missed 3-pointer from Tomashek with three seconds left.

The two teams traded leads multiple times showcasing double-digit leads by both teams during the contest.

The Huskies led by five after four consecutive points from Adam Hobson, going 2-for-2 from the foul line before hitting a layup two offensive possessions later at the 6:40 mark.

However, less than five minutes later, the Miners scored five unanswered points to head into the halftime break with a 38-33 advantage closed out by free throws from Lovell Williams.

The Miners would pick up where they left off in the second half, going on a 6-2 run to increase their lead to 44-35 with 17:29 remaining.

Two 3-pointers from Josh Terrian sandwiched between a jump shot in the paint from Tomashek would bring the game to 45-43 before Dawson Nordgaard made a layup off a fast break to even the score.

The Huskies maintained a two-possession lead for the latter stages of the contest before the Miners began to chip away with 5:24 to go, showing Michigan Tech with a 65-62 edge.

S&T's Ikenna Okeke and Andrew Young accounted for nine points down the stretch to help the Miners come away with the win.

Tomashek posted an impressive 27 points and nine rebounds to lead the Huskies. He also accounted for three assists and three steals. Calcaterra grabbed nine boards as well for the Black & Gold. Hobson joined Tomashek in double-digit scoring (16 points).

The Huskies won the turnover battle (16-12) with eight steals compared to the Miners six, however, they lost the battle on the glass by a slim margin (42-38).
