The Huskies split a pair of games against NSIC opponents last weekend while the Timberwolves split games against Illinois-Springfield (W, 79-71) and Indianapolis (L, 91-85) in the GLVC. Michigan Tech took both games of the season series against Northwood last winter at Riepma Arena in Midland.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Trent Bell notched a double-double and Owen White scored 25 points in a 90-76 win for Michigan Tech men's basketball over St. Cloud State University Sunday at SDC Gymnasium. Tech bounced back quickly after a defeat Saturday. The team completed a second-half comeback against SCSU to move to 3-2 in non-conference play.
  • Bell totaled 19 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block in an offensive shootout in Houghton, shooting 6-10 from the field and 6-6 from the free throw line. White led all players in scoring and made 10 of 18 shots with five rebounds, a pair of assists, and one steal.

SCOUTING THE TIMBERWOLVES

  • The Timberwolves finished 6-12 in the GLIAC last year and had its conference quarterfinal against Lake Superior State canceled due to the pandemic.
  • So far, Northwood is averaging 77.4 points and 33.2 rebounds per game. The Timberwolves have been efficient on offense with 50.5-percent shooting overall, including 42.2-percent from beyond the arc.
  • Senior guard Jack Ammerman (Ann Arbor, Mich.) had a pair of big games in Indianapolis, averaging 24.5 points per game to be tabbed GLIAC South Division Player of the Week. He shot 66.7-percent from the floor (18-27), 75-percent from 3-point range (9-12) and 100-percent from the foul line. Ammerman led the team with 16.3 points per game last season and was Second Team All-GLIAC.
  • Northwood also returned veterans Maurion Scott and Trevor Davis. Scott was a member of the GLIAC All-Defensive team and Davis led the squad in assists. Davis currently ranks second in points (13.0 ppg) shooting 58.5-percent. Scott is third at 12.4 points and second in rebounds (6.8 rpg).
  • DeSean Munson leads the team with 7.0 rebounds per contest. The sophomore forward has one start and averaged 19.1 minutes off the bench.
  • Transfer Kenny Ganley Jr. transferred from Youngstown State. The sophomore forward is scoring at a rate of 8.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
