Huskies Earn NCAA Division II Statistical Championship for Free Throw Percentage

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball team has been awarded the 2016-17 NCAA Division II statistical championship for team free throw percentage.

The Huskies knocked down 81.6 percent of their tries at the charity stripe during the 2016-17 campaign. Tech players combined to make 378 of 463 total attempts and in the process set a new single season school record for highest free throw percentage. The Huskies dialed in 80 percent or more of their free throw opportunities in 19 games during the course of the season.

Barry University (Fla.) was the only other NCAA Division II program to reach an 80 percent conversion rate at the line, finishing second behind the Huskies at exactly 80 percent.

Michigan Tech wrapped up the 2016-17 campaign with an overall record of 16-14 and tied for second in the GLIAC North Division standings. The Huskies advanced to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals, narrowly losing to top-seeded Ferris State.
