Huskies Add Powell for 2017-18 Season

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball program and Head Coach Kevin Luke are pleased to announce the addition of TeeAaron Powell to the program for the 2017-18 season. Powell signed his Nation Letter of Intent to join the Huskies as a student-athlete on Wednesday.

"TeeAaron is a great addition for us," Coach Luke said. "Number one he is a great person and comes from a great family and those are just a couple of the many great qualities that he has. He has great size at 6'9, is mobile, and can really play with his back towards the basket. He will be an important addition to our scheme of how we play offense especially. Over the course of time he'll continue to develop his defensive skills. I like the way he takes up space in the middle and really like his work ethic. In addition to his skills on the court, his academics are off the chart and he is a great fit for our program. We are really excited to have him."

Powell hails from Chicago, Illinois and attended Marian Catholic High School where he faced some of the top high school talent in the country. Powell helped guide Marian Catholic to a 16-12 overall record this past season against a tough slate of teams. Powell also played for the Illinois Stars in AAU completion.

"He played against some good competition in high school and that should help him as he transitions to college basketball," Luke added. "It can be a challenge for big guys to come in and play against 6'8 and 6'9 opponents night in and night out. It's going to be exciting for us and for him to take the next step and if anybody can do it TeeAaron can."

Powell joins Dawson Bilski (Powers, Mich.), Trent Bell (Negaunee, Mich.), and Kyle Clow (Germantown, Wis.) in this year's recruiting class. Bilski, Bell, and Clow all signed NLI's back in November.

Michigan Tech wrapped up the 2016-17 campaign with an overall record of 16-14 and tied for second in the GLIAC North Division standings. The Huskies advanced to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals, narrowly losing to top-seeded Ferris State.
