HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech finished the game on a 6-0 run to defeat Ohio Dominican 62-59 in GLIAC men's basketball at the SDC Gym today. Bryan Heath made a driving layup with 22 seconds left, Jeff Gregory closed out scoring with :07 showing, and the Panthers missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

"It's nice for the guys to make the crucial plays to get the win," said Tech coach Kevin Luke. "We made free throws down the stretch, we got the ball inside and made shots.

"The confidence this win will instill in us will help us moving forward."

Neither team led by more than five in the second half until ODU's Chad Nelson hit a 3-pointer and Michael Simon added two free throws for a 54-48 advantage with 5:33 to play.

Heath cut the gap to two with a rare four-point play at the 4:57 mark.

Kyle Monroe had a steal and a block for consecutive defensive stops surrounding a pair of free throws to knot the game at 56-all with 3:46 to go.

A Panthers free throw and a layup by Nelson pushed the gap to 59-56 with 2:14 left, but the visitors would not score again.

Monroe made a layup after a Luke Heller offensive rebound to pull within one at 1:00 on the clock, then Heath made a baseline drive for the lead at :22.

Simon missed a 3-pointer with :10 left, and Gregory grabbed the rebound. He sank both free throws. ODU's Ronnie Williams had a good look at a potential game-tying 3-pointer, but it rimmed out as time expired.

Three Huskies finished in double figures led by Heller's 16 points. Heath scored 15 points, and Monroe added 12 points and eight rebounds. Gregory posted five points and a career-high 10 rebounds.

Tech shot 40 percent from the field including 5-of-22 (23 percent) from behind the arc. ODU made 41 percent of its field goals. The Huskies utilized a 33-27 edge in rebounds and scored 28 points in the paint compared to the Panthers' 12.

Michigan Tech will play at home again tomorrow with a 4 p.m. tipoff vs. Tiffin.
