HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech dropped a 70-64 decision to UW-Parkside in non-conference men's basketball today at the SDC Gym. The Huskies turned a 12-point deficit into a four-point game with 1:06 to play but missed their final three field goal attempts.

Tech fell to 2-6 with the loss. The Rangers improved to 7-2.

The Huskies trailed 34-30 at halftime, but had the game knotted at 37-all less than three minutes into the second half.

Parkside then went on a 9-0 run as the Black and Gold missed three layups. A Miles Sigh 3-pointer and free throws from Jeff Gregory cut the gap to 55-52 with 8:42 to play, but UWP's Andy Muzurczak nailed a triple on the next possession.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Bryan Heath pulled the hosts within 67-63 with 1:06 showing. Tech got the defensive stop and went back to Heath for a triple try. It missed, but Luke Heller grabbed the rebound. He was fouled and made 1-of-2 free throws for a three-point game with :20 left.

UWP made two foul shots with 19 seconds left, and Tech misfired on two more triple tries before the final horn

"Parkside's a good club," said Tech coach Kevin Luke. "They made the plays they needed to make.

"I thought we got good shots tonight and just didn't make them."

Kyle Monroe scored 22 points to lead all scorers. Heller added 11 (10 in the first half on 5-of-6 shooting). Heath scored 10 points despite going just 2-of-14 from the floor.

UW-Parkside shot 45 percent from the field while Tech made 40 percent. The Rangers held a 37-30 rebounding advantage, and both teams turned it over 14 times.

Michigan Tech will have two weeks off before it's next game. The Huskies host Ohio Dominican Jan. 2 at 3 p.m.
