HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech's comeback bid against Walsh came up short in an 83-71 GLIAC men's basketball decision at the SDC Gym today. The Huskies trailed by as many as 18 points and pulled within six with 1:41 to play but couldn't complete the comeback.

"I thought every time we had a chance, we just couldn't get over the hump," said Tech coach Kevin Luke. "Credit goes to Walsh. They hit a 3-pointer or had a three-point play every time we started to get some momentum."

Walsh (3-2, 2-0 GLIAC) turned a 43-40 score one minute into the second half into a 13-point bulge by the 14-minute mark. The margin grew to as many as 18 midway through the frame.

Back-to-back layups from Kyle Monroe cut the gap to nine with 3:53 to play. Bryan Heath's 3-pointer with 1:41 to go trimmed the deficit to six.

Tech (2-3, 1-1 GLIAC) got the miss on the ensuing defensive stand, but couldn't secure the rebound. Trey Fletcher laid it in for a 79-71 score.

Heath missed a 3-pointer on the next trip down, and the Cavaliers finished scoring at the foul line.

The Huskies turned the ball over only three times in the game, but were outrebounded 40-27. Walsh was hot from the field in the second half at 60 percent and finished the game at 53 percent. Tech shot 38 percent from the floor for the contest.

"I'm happy that we took care of the ball and that we kept battling," said Luke. "Our shot selection wasn't great at times. We need to learn from this and get better."

Heath posted a team-high 16 points. Jeff Gregory added a career-high 13 points. Monroe had a double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists and four steals. Kyle Stankowski also reached double digits with 12.

Michigan Tech will continue GLIAC play next Thursday (Dec. 10) with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff at Findlay.
