Bio

Kellen O’Neill begins his second season full-time as Wide Receivers Coach in 2023-24. He joined the Huskies in a part-time role in 2022-23, also working with Wide Receivers.

O'Neill came to the Huskies from Division II Gannon University, where he served as tight ends coach for one season. The Knights finished 5-6 overall, including 4-4 in the PSAC. In 2019, he was the Wide Receivers Coach at Findlay and helped the Oilers to a 7-4 record in 2019 while coaching Christopher Johnson, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Ruben Flowers was an All-GMAC choice and Cade Rogers earned honorable mention accolades.
 
Prior to that, O’Neill was on the staff at Duquesne, serving as the Dukes’ wide receiver coach starting in 2017. He helped the Dukes to a 7-4 finish. Among his wide receivers was Nehari Crawford, who earned first-team All-Northeast Conference honors. Crawford led the Football Championship Subdivision with 15 receiving touchdowns. He recorded 65 receptions for 1,026 yards, becoming just the eighth player in Duquesne history to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving in a season.
 
He coached at his alma mater, Edinboro, in 2016, helping the Fighting Scots record the greatest turnaround in Division II history, finishing at 9-2 after a winless showing the year before. He served as the running backs and special teams coach, helping running back Walter Fletcher enjoy a record-breaking season.
 
Prior to joining the Edinboro staff, O’Neill was an assistant coach at Division I University of Albany in 2014 and 2015, working as an offensive assistant in 2015. He also served as an assistant boys basketball coach at his alma mater, General McLane High School, in 2012-13.
 
A 2013 graduate of Edinboro University with a bachelor of arts degree in Communication Studies, O’Neill played three seasons for the Fighting Scots. As a wide receiver, O’Neill finished his career with 23 receptions and 181 receiving yards. He also holds a master of science degree in Educational Leadership from Edinboro University.
 
O’Neill started his collegiate career at Slippery Rock University, where he redshirted in 2009 and served as the backup quarterback in 2010, appearing in eight games. He transferred to Edinboro the next summer and played in 11 games in 2011 as a backup at wide receiver and quarterback, along with holding on placekicks. In 2012, he played in nine games, catching 10 passes for 89 yards. He added 13 receptions for 92 yards while playing in 11 contests in 2013.
 
O’Neill was a second generation coach at Edinboro. His father Rege served as a member of the Edinboro coaching staff in the early 1980’s under head coach Denny Creehan. He was inducted into the General McLane High School Hall of Fame in 2019. He was a three-sport athlete, participating in football, basketball, and track and field. In football, he was named all-region as a junior and senior as an all-purpose back and quarterback, and is the current single season (1,672 yards) and career (2,670 yards) school rushing leader. He also compiled 1,510 career passing yards with 16 TDs.
