Henderson Named GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. – Michigan Tech running back James Henderson has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week following a standout performance in the 51-45 Miner's Cup victory in overtime on Saturday at Northern Michigan.

Henderson, a junior from Midland, Michigan, blocked a punt late in the fourth quarter to setup one of Tech's key touchdowns in the game. The block put the Huskies' offense at the Northern Michigan 15-yard line and five plays later Kevin Miller was in the end zone for the touchdown with 56 seconds to go in regulation. In addition to the blocked punt, Henderson returned four kicks for 93 yards and rushed for a 72-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Tech junior running back John Williams was an honorable mention for Offensive Player of the Week and junior defensive back Derek Cingel was an honorable mention for Defensive Player of the Week. Marty Carter of Grand Valley State was chosen as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week and Ross Thompson of Ohio Dominican was the conference Defense Player of the Week.

The Huskies will be back in action on Saturday when they host the University of Findlay on Senior Day at Sherman Field. The kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
