HOCKEY SWEEPS WILDCATS, FINISHES ONE POINT OUT OF FIRST
The No. 4-ranked Michigan Tech hockey team defeated Northern Michigan 3-1 on Saturday (March 7) at the Berry Events Center to pick up the WCHA series sweep of the Wildcats on the final day of the regular season. The Huskies collected their 26th win to improve to 26-8-2 overall and 21-5-2 in the WCHA. Tech finished second in the WCHA standings one point behind MacNaughton Cup champions Minnesota State who defeated Bemidji State to secure the Cup.

 

 


TECH SET FOR FIRST HOME WCHA PLAYOFFS SINCE 1993

The hockey Huskies have earned the No. 2 seed in the WCHA Playoffs, and will host seventh-seeded Alabama Huntsville in a best-of-three series at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena on Mar. 13-15. The games will be the first postseason games for Tech at home since Mar. 12-13, 1993, when it swept St. Cloud State in a WCHA Playoff first round series. HUSKIES TO HOST NCAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL MIDWEST REGIONAL

Michigan Tech will host the NCAA Midwest Regional for the third time in the last six years as it was awarded the region’s top seed. Tech, which earned the GLIAC’s automatic bid, will face No. 8 Cedarville in the opening round of the tournament on Friday (Mar. 13) at 5 p.m. Michigan Tech hosted the NCAA Midwest Regional in both 2010 and 2011, winning the title each time and advancing to the NCAA Elite Eight. The Huskies enter the dance with a 27-2 record and the GLIAC North Division crown, GLIAC overall title and GLIAC Tournament Championship to their credit.

 

 

 


WOMEN’S BASKETBALL EARNS GLIAC TOURNAMENT TITLE

For the seventh time in school history, Michigan Tech earned the GLIAC Tournament title. The Huskies won all three of their games in the tournament by double digits including a 68-52 championship game win over Ashland on Sunday (Mar. 8) to cut down the nets at the SDC Gym. Jillian Ritchie was named GLIAC Tournament MVP, while teammates Danielle Blake and Kelli Guy were also named to the all-tournament team.

 

 

 


TECH MEN EARN SIX SEED IN MIDWEST REGIONAL AT BELLARMINE

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team has earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament it was announced tonight by the NCAA. The Huskies will be the No. 6 seed in the Midwest Regional hosted by Bellarmine in Louisville, Ky. Tech’s first-round game will come against No. 3-seeded Indianapolis. The contest will be a rematch of last year’s Midwest Regional Semifinal, when the Huskies defeated the Greyhounds 82-76 to advance to its first ever NCAA Sweet 16.

 

 

 


FOUR SKIERS SET TO RACE AT NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Michigan Tech had four Nordic skiers qualify for the NCAA Championships in Lake Placid, N.Y. this week. Tom Bye and Haakon Hjelstuen from the men’s team and Alice Flanders and Deedra Irwin from the women’s team will represent the Huskies on collegiate skiing’s biggest stage. Freestyle races are scheduled for Wednesday (Mar. 11). Classic races are set for Friday (Mar. 13). Racing will begin at 10 a.m. each day.
