SWEEP OF UAA PULLS HUSKIES WITHIN POINT OF WCHA LEAD
Michigan Tech outscored Alaska Anchorage by a combined 15-1 in two games last week for the series and season sweep of the Seawolves. The Huskies improved to 24-7-1 overall and 19-4-1 in the WCHA. Paired with results from other league games, Tech finds itself just one point behind first place in the WCHA standings and eight points ahead of third. During Saturday’s (Feb. 14) 10-0 triumph, junior Alex Petan became the 63rd player in Tech history to reach the 100-point mark for his career. He had a goal and two assists. Tanner Kero also posted three points on the night. The two players are currently tied for the league scoring lead with 31 points on 12 goals and 19 assists in 24 WCHA tilts. Michigan Tech will have a week off before facing WCHA-leading Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn., on Feb. 27-28.




WOMEN’S HOOPS CLINCHES GLIAC TITLE!

Michigan Tech laid claim to the women’s basketball program’s 13th GLIAC title with a pair of home wins last week giving the Huskies a five-game lead in the North Division with three games to go. Tech (22-1, 18-1 GLIAC) also owns a two-game lead over Wayne State (20-3, 16-3 GLIAC) in the race for home court advantage throughout the GLIAC Tournament. The Huskies have won 13 straight games overall and 15 consecutive home games dating back to last season. Morgan Anderson became the fifth different Tech player to score 20+ points in a game this season with a career-high 21 on Saturday (Feb. 14) vs. Saginaw Valley State. The game was also Senior Day, marking the final regular season home game for Emily Harrison and Jillian Ritchie.

 

 

 


MEN WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT BY SWEEPING LEAGUE-LEADING SAGINAW

The Tech men’s basketball team won its third and fourth straight games with a pair of home victories last week. Ben Stelzer hit five 3-pointers and posted 29 points in a 72-62 victory over Hillsdale on Thursday (Feb. 12). The Huskies then earned the season sweep of GLIAC-leading Saginaw Valley State 75-70 as Selzer (25 points) and Luke Heller (a career-high 20 points) combined for 45. Stelzer and two other seniors (Troy Hecht and Phil Romback) were honored before the Senior Day game. Tech has moved into a tie for third place in the GLIAC North Division standings, two games back of first. With three games to go, the Huskies own a three-game lead in the race for a home GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal game.

 

 

 


FLANDERS WINS CCSA FREESTYLE TITLE

Alice Flanders became the third different Michigan Tech skier to win a CCSA title when she beat the field by 11 seconds in Saturday’s (Feb. 14) 10-kilometer freestyle race. The 2014 All-American joined Haakon Hjelstuen and Ulrika Axelsson, who both won classic sprint titles the weekend before, as CCSA Champions. The men’s and women’s teams both placed second of eight league schools in the final standings.
