HOCKEY
Michigan Tech split its weekend against archrival Northern Michigan. The Huskies won 4-2 Friday in Houghton and the Wildcats won 3-1 Saturday in Marquette. Logan Pietila, Arvid Caderoth, Jack Works, Isaac Gordon, and Ryland Mosley scored. Tech heads into the holiday break with an 8-8-3 overall record and a 6-4-0 mark in the CCHA. The Huskies are off until the 57th annual Great Lakes Invitational on December 28-29 at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. Tech begins the tournament against Alaska in the first semifinal. Michigan State and Ferris State will meet in the late semifinal.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Tech split its GLIAC opening weekend. The Huskies won 56-51 over Saginaw Valley State Thursday at the SDC Gym before falling 61-42 to Wayne State on Saturday. Isabella Lenz led the Huskies in scoring, averaging 11.5 points on the weekend. The Huskies are off this week before wrapping up the pre-holiday schedule and non-conference play at Winona State on December 19.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Huskies had a one-point setback to SVSU on Thursday 78-77 and bounced back with an 84-77 win over Wayne State Saturday at the SDC Gym. Marcus Tomashek poured in 39 points Thursday and followed it up with 20 on Saturday. Tech overcame a 14-point deficit in the win over the Warriors, and Dawson Nordgaard scored 19 points. The Huskies host Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday at 1 p.m. and then Winona State at 1 p.m. on December 19.

NORDIC SKIING
The Huskies opened the season in Duluth at the CXC Cup at Spirit Mountain over the weekend. Axel Aflodal won the men's freestyle sprint in his first race in the Black and Gold and then led the Huskies with a fifth-place finish in the 7.5km classic on Sunday. Marie Sølverud Wangen (5th) and Cat Stow (6th) led Tech in Saturday's women's sprint. Anabel Needham paced the Huskies in Sunday's classic with a fourth-place showing while Marie Sølverud Wangen was one spot back. The Huskies return to action this weekend traveling to Cable, Wisconsin, for the Salomon CXC Cup.
