Wittenberg named Assistant AD for Business Operations at Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech Athletics has hired Curtis Wittenberg as the Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations. In his role, Wittenberg is responsible for managing the Department of Athletics and Recreation finances. He began his duties on May 1.

Wittenberg comes to Tech after serving as the Athletic Director at Finlandia University over the past six and a half years.

"I'm thrilled to be able to continue my career in collegiate athletics while being able to stay in the Copper Country," Wittenberg said. "I've always admired how Suzanne has run Michigan Tech Athletics, and I want to thank her and the rest of the search committee for giving me this opportunity."

Wittenberg was promoted to the Finlandia AD position in October 2016 after serving as the Associate Director of Athletics and Compliance since 2010. He began as a coach and has served in a wide variety of administrative roles for the Lions, including Game Event Coordinator, Sports Information Director, Facilities Coordinator, Adjunct Math Professor, and Tutor.

During his time as the AD, Wittenberg was part of a group that helped create and establish the American Collegiate Athletic Association in 2017 and then moved the Lions to the Coast to Coast Athletic Conference in 2020. Wittenberg's leadership led a young football program into the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association conference and then the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.

Wittenberg began his time in the Copper Country as an Assistant Coach with the Finlandia Women's Basketball Team in 2003. He was the Head Cross Country Coach (2004-06) for the Lions and wrapped up his collegiate coaching tenure as the Head Women's Basketball Coach (2007-10).

Wittenberg also coached high school basketball, leading the boys' program at Lake Linden-Hubbell High School from 2005-07 and the girls' program from 2006-07. He also led the boys' program at Hancock Central High School from 2012-15.

Wittenberg is a native of Ovid, Michigan, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science from Ferris State. He resides in Lake Linden with his wife Kelly.
