Hembroff named Director of Athletic Partnerships & Ticket Sales

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech Athletics has named Dirk Hembroff as the Director of Athletic Partnerships and Ticket Sales. In his role, Hembroff will secure, manage and fulfill advertising partnerships, as well as work with the external relations team to market Michigan Tech Athletics and Recreation to all partners.

Hembroff will continue his award-winning play-by-play duties for Michigan Tech hockey on Mix 93 WKMJ—a position he has held for 20 seasons.

"I want to thank Dr. Sanregret and her whole staff for this opportunity," Hembroff said. "As big of a change this will be for me and my family, the over three decades of working side-by-side with this athletic department will make the move a familiar, yet, exciting experience."

"Dirk is not a new face to our athletic department," Michigan Tech Athletic Director Suzanne Sanregret said. "We have worked with him for decades as the Voice of the Huskies. We are excited to officially welcome him to the department. He not only has long-standing relationships with our coaches, staff, and student-athletes but brings a wealth of experience working with our community. These relationships are invaluable, and we are excited for the changes and new ideas that Dirk has to advance Michigan Tech Athletics and Recreation."

Hembroff was a sports broadcaster, sales executive, morning show personality, and sports director at J&J Broadcasting, holding various positions with WKMJ and WMPL since 1990. He has created custom advertising packages with over 30 clients. He also served as a marketing director at Hancock Public Schools and worked nearly 20 years as a field insurance claims adjuster.

Hembroff and WKMJ recently received a 2021 Broadcast Excellence Award by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for his play-by-play coverage of the Michigan Tech hockey team. He previously received a pair of honors from the MAB, including a Morning Show Broadcast Personality award and a Sports Report award for his daily sports update on his former weekday morning radio show, The Dirkside.

In his new role with the Huskies, Hembroff will manage the suite rentals at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena and the ticket sales for the football Champions Pavilion at Kearly Stadium. He will also work with partners to develop advertising for the video board and dashers in the MacInnes Student Ice Arena, gym banners, football scoreboard, and other areas throughout the complex and web presence.
