William A. Longacre Sr.

Having served for 24 years as Michigan Tech's Faculty Representative for Athletics, Bill Longacre is a well-remembered friend of the Michigan Tech athletic department.

He worked in the physics department at MTU from 1929 until his retirement in 1971 in positions ranging from instructor to head of physics to director of geophysics. Longacre was honored with the first-ever Distinguished Teacher Award at MTU, presented by the MTU Faculty Association in 1952.

In addition to his work in the classroom and laboratory, he was very active in athletics at MTU. He represented the University at the NCAA Convention, conference meetings, and at the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. As chair of the MTU Athletic Board, Longacre guided athletic policy at Michigan Tech for almost a quarter of a century.
