Cheryl A. DePuydt
Inducted October 24, 1992

One of the most ardent supporters of Michigan Tech athletics, Cheryl DePuydt is being inducted into Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame as a builder. And build she has done.

DePuydt was a major player in helping get women's athletics started at Michigan Tech. She was MTU's first women's basketball coach, first volleyball coach, and first cheerleading coach.

In her tenure at MTU, which has spent in the physical education department, she has served on numerous committees and been one of the top instuctors in the department throughout. In 1982, she received MTU's Distinguished Teaching Award and in 1991 she was honored by the state of Michigan with the Teaching Excellence Award.

Among her many community endeavors, DePuydt started the MTU Skating Academy and she has also served as president of the Hancock Rotary Club.

DePuydt passed away on September 23, 2005.
