Tech XC Heads to Lewis Crossover

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech cross country squads head to Romeoville, Illinois, to compete in the 7th Annual Lewis Crossover Cross Country Invitational hosted by Lewis on Saturday, October 8. 

The men will run the 8,000m course at 10:45 a.m., with the women following at 11:30 a.m. running the 6,000m course.

Fans in the area are encouraged to show support and join the team after the races for a luncheon/hang out at the team camp, more information on the post-race social can be found here

Last Time Out

The Huskies showed out at the Roy Griak Invitational on Friday (Sept. 23). The men, who rank 15th in the nation in the USTFCCCA Week 2 Coaches' Poll, won their first-ever Jo Rider men's Maroon Race. 

Veteran Clayton Sayen claimed runner-up honors, bettering his time from last year running through the finish line in 25:11. Drew Kolodge was hot on Sayen's trail finishing in third at 23:13.3. Sam Lange rounded out the sub-26 crew for the Huskies placing eighth in 25:40.6. Tucker Ringhand and Nick McKenzie were top-30 to round out the scoring for Tech running 26:09.2 and 26:17.8 respectively.

Of note, the average time of the top-seven runners was a scorching 25:42.4.

The women also had made some noise nationally after placing fourth overall, highlighted by finishing higher than nationally-ranked teams in No. 14 UMary and No. 27 Minnesota State.

Senior Michelle Bollini paced the Huskies with her 13th-place finish (22:57.3). Also in the top-20 was senior Sam Kurkowski, placing 17th with a time of 23:07.8. Jesse Jacobusse and Elsa Huckles rounded out the top 30 places with Jacobusse placing 26th (23:33.8) and Huckles claiming 30th (23:38.5). Hannah Loughlin completed the scoring for the Huskies with her 47th place, running sub 24 minutes (23:59.5).

The Huskies' top seven placed within the top 65 spots, with Anabel Needham (24:08.1) and Cedar Gordon (24:18.1) placing 56th and 65th, respectively.

The performance of the women's squad moved them into the USTFCCCA Week 2 Coaches' Poll, entering at 29th. Additionally, the women moved up two spots in the Midwest Region, sitting in the eighth spot.
