Huskies add D1 transfer Avery Brown

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech volleyball has added Avery Brown to its roster for the upcoming 2024 season. Brown is transferring to Tech from NCAA Division I The University of Akron where she was a member of the volleyball team for the past two seasons. The native of Decatur, Georgia will have two years of eligibility remaining as a setter and will major in mechanical engineering.

"Avery is a fantastic addition to our team and adds both talent and depth to our setting core," Tech volleyball coach Matt Jennings said. "She brings two seasons of valuable experience playing at the D1 level and was trained at one of the country's top juniors programs. Avery is a dedicated student who will continue to pursue an engineering degree here at Tech. We're getting a hardworking, competitive setter who will fit in well with our Huskies."

As a freshman in 2022, Brown appeared in 25 matches and 90 sets with 12 starts. She tallied 409 assists, averaging 4.54 per set. Brown also added 147 digs (1.63 d/s), 16 aces, and six kills while scoring 22.5 points. She played in four matches and 11 sets in 2023, tallying 30 assists, and 23 digs.

Brown was a three-year starter at St. Pius X Catholic High School in Atlanta, Georgia. She played setter and right-side helping her 2021 team go 52-1. The Golden Lions won a State Championship and a Regional Championship. She was named All-State and All-Region after appearing in 92 sets and registering 79 kills, 162 digs, 44 aces, and 23 blocks. She averaged 7.2 assists per set with 1,068 career assists, 82 aces, 278 digs, and 155 kills. Her 2019 team was the State Runner-Up.
