Huskies selected to NCAA Midwest Region Tournament

NCAA - Michigan Tech women's tennis earned an at-large bid to the Division II Midwest Region Tournament, announced by the NCAA selection committee late Monday night. The Huskies (9-7, 5-2 GLIAC) will make their fourth tournament appearance since 1975-76 and first since 2007-08 (16 seasons) on Monday, May 1 against Wayne State (20-3) at 11:30 a.m. EST.

Indianapolis (17-5) earned the top seed in the region and hosts their half of the draw. No. 7 seed Michigan Tech plays the No. 2 seed Warriors in Detroit. All three matches in the bottom half of the midwest will be held at the University of Detroit Mercy Tennis Courts weather permitting. The winner faces either No. 3 seed Grand Valley State (14-6) or No. 4 seed Tiffin (18-6) on May 2 at 1 p.m.

Sixteen teams in the eight regions advance to the 2023 DII Women's Tennis National Championships in Orlando, Florida on May 11-16 at USTA National Campus.

Tech has made the NCAA Region Tournament in 2007-08, 2003-04, and 2001-02, all under Head Coach Mike Axford. The team advanced to the second round in 2003-04 and is 1-3 all-time in NCAA matches.

Fourth-year head coach Kristin D'Agostini-Yep guided the No. 44 ranked Huskies to a GLIAC tournament quarterfinal win over Davenport 4-1 before the Huskies fell to eventual champion Wayne State in the semifinals 4-0. The Huskies feature the No. 31 ranked doubles pair in Division II (Dominika Bobik and Grace Eland).

Forty-eight (48) teams heard their name called during the selection show, shown by the NCAA on its website. Of those 48, 20 already knew they were in prior to the event by virtue of their respective conference championships.
