HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team concludes the regular season homestand hosting Ferris State on Friday (Oct. 27) and Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 29).

Friday's game is slated for 4 p.m., while Sunday's contest begins at noon, serving as Senior Day for Cassie Bonifas, Mikayla Marshalek and Gracie VanLangevelde.

About the Bulldogs

Ferris State enters its final road trip of the season, with an overall record of 5-6-4 and 3-5-3 in the GLIAC. Most recently, the Bulldogs played to a 1-1 draw against Davenport on Friday (Oct. 20) before falling to No. 20 Grand Valley State 2-1 on Sunday (Oct. 23).

Ferris State has posted 20 goals this season, averaging 1.33 goals per game on 12.3 shots per game. Freshman Katherine Welch leads the Bulldog offense with seven goals, ranking second in the GLIAC. Defender Lindsay Cole has four assists on the season in a tie for second in the league.

Welch scored the lone two goals of the weekend, with Cole credited on the assist against Grand Valley State.

Goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei has made 12 starts for the Bulldogs this year with 52 saves and an overall record of 2-2-3.

About the Cardinals

Saginaw Valley State enters the week at the top of the GLIAC standings with an overall standing of 9-3-3 and 6-2-3 in the conference. Although the Cardinals are tops in the league, SVSU is coming off a 2-2 draw against No. 20 Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 20) before being shut out (4-0) by Davenport on Sunday (Oct. 22).

The Panthers have figured out the Cardinals, as SVSU's last loss also came against Davenport on Sep. 15 in a 1-0 decision. 

In the draw against the Lakers, the Cardinals netted the first two goals, coming from Sarah Fredrick and Tiffani Torres within the first 23 minutes of play. Goals by Mackenzie Jones (50th minute) and Sophia Morgan (75th minute) from GVSU forced the tie.

The Cardinals have netted 25 goals on the year and average 1.67 goals per game on 15.1 shots per game.

Stephanie Strong leads the conference in assists (5) and shots (52) this season.

The Cardinals have a triple threat offensively as Madi Bajis leads the Cardinal offense with six goals, Strong and Sarah Fredrick have netted five goals each this season.

SVSU has seen three goalkeepers earn minutes, with Lainey Garbarz playing in 10 games with over 838 minutes logged. Her goals-against average is the best in the league (0.429), with a record of 5-2-2.

About the Huskies 

Michigan Tech is riding the high of a three-game win streak, most recently completing series sweeps over Parkside (Oct. 20) and Purdue Northwest (Oct. 22). The Huskies are in a tie for second-place in the GLIAC standings with a conference ledger of 6-1-4 and an overall record of 7-2-6. The Black & Gold are also in the first regional rankings of the season.

The Huskies overcame a one-goal deficit against Parkside before seeing a career-first goal from Taylor Noble. In the 3-2 win, Cassie Bonifas also netted her fifth goal of the season, now in a tie with Seulgi Lee to lead the team. Freshman Brooke Green netted her first career game-winner in the 53rd minute for her second goal of the season. 

The Black & Gold saw season-firsts from Alyvia Sanom and Julia Pietila in the 2-1 victory at Purdue Northwest.

Sanom netted her first goal of the season, with the assist coming from Kiersen Korienek, who earned her second assist of the season. The win was capped by Pietila, scoring the game-winning goal, her first of the season.

The Huskies continue to find ways to get corner kicks, ranking first in the league and 24th nationally with 6.27 corner kicks per game.

Michigan Tech is averaging 1.40 goals per game while posting 12.3 shots per game. Lee and Bonifas have both netted five goals this season. Emilie Clayton and Green join the duo with multiple goals on the season, showing three goals for Clayton and two for Green.

Defensively, Gracie VanLangevelde has stopped 49 shots with a goals-against average of 0.84.
