HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Michigan Tech soccer team ventures downstate to open the second half of GLIAC play, facing No. 9 Grand Valley State on Friday at 7 p.m. before a Sunday Matinee at Davenport on Sunday at noon.

About the Lakers

Grand Valley State resumes conference play following a 2-1 victory at Davenport on Friday (Oct. 9) to move to 7-1-3 overall and 5-0-2 in the loop. 

The Lakers and Panthers were knotted at 1-1 through 45 minutes before Claire Breault scored the game-winner in the 87th minute.

Goalkeeper Isabel Imes earned the start in goal and notched her fourth win of the season.

Imes ranks 21st nationally and second in the league with a .500 goals-against average. 

The Lakers are led offensively by Emma Chudik, with five goals and 10 points.

In the first meeting this season, the Lakers bested the Huskies 2-0 at Kearly Stadium with goals from Mackenzie Jones and a penalty kick from Kacy Lauer.

The Huskies outshot the Lakers 14-9 with five corners a piece. 

About the Panthers

Davenport opens the second half of GLIAC play after a 2-1 loss to Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 9), showing a record of 4-3-3 overall and 1-3-3 within the GLIAC.

Madison Fant struck first for the Panthers just 10 minutes into the contest, but couldn't outlast the Lakers, who answered with a goal in the 17th minute before posting the game-winner in the 86th minute.

The Panthers took nine shots in the contest, with only one reaching target.

Fant leads the Panthers with five goals along with being in an eight-way tie in the GLIAC with two game-winning goals.

Gabriana Bennecke has earned five shutouts this season, ranking third in the conference and 27th nationally.

The two teams tied in their first meeting of the season with a 1-1 draw at Kearly Stadium. The Panthers scored first in the 52nd minute, with Emilie Clayton scoring the equalizer off a corner by Grace Hoeppner.

Michigan Tech outshot Davenport 15-9 while having a 10-3 edge on corner kicks.

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech concluded the first session of conference contests with a 1-1 draw against No. 19 Northern Michigan on Friday (Oct. 6). Overall, The Huskies are 4-2-5 with a GLIAC standing of 3-1-3 in a tie for third in the conference.

The Huskies struck first with a goal by Seulgi Lee coming off a set piece in the 33rd minute. The Black & Gold remained in the driver's seat until the 87th minute when the Wildcats connected on a header by the GLIAC's leading goal scorer, Molly Pistorius, forcing the 1-1 draw.

The two teams battled through wind and rain to draw for the first time since the 2016 season.

The Huskies are averaging 6.09 corner kicks per game to lead the conference, playing a vital role in Michigan Tech's offensive success this season. Of note, Michigan Tech has totaled 67 corner kicks through 11 games.

Lee leads the Black & Gold with five goals this season with 15 shots on goal.

Fifth-year goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde has logged 928:50 minutes between the posts this season, making 34 saves.
