Michigan Tech Soccer Suffers Setback At Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. – A 3-0 deficit entering the second half was too much for the Michigan Tech women's soccer team to overcome, as the Huskies fell 3-1 to Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday afternoon.

"Good job to Coach Nikolic and Parkside on the win today, anyone can beat anyone on any given day in the GLIAC." head coach Bulut Ozturk said. "It was a tough loss again today, but definitely something we'll look to learn from. We don't have much time before our next match, so we have to put this one behind us and just focus on the next one."

Michigan Tech (3-3-0, 1-1-0) was met with rain and wind at Wood Road Soccer Field in their second contest of conference play. The game was a tale of two halves as Parkside (4-2-0 1-1-0) did everything right in the first 45 minutes.

The Rangers jumped out to an early lead, with Myah Strokosch finding the back of the net just seven minutes into the contest. The bad luck would continue for the Huskies as Parkside capitalized twice more, with goals coming in the 14th and 32nd minute to put the Black & Gold in a hole.

In the 28th minute, the Huskies had a chance to get on the scoreboard when Cassie Bonifas lined up for a penalty kick. However, the conditions of the pitch affected the shot, going wide of the goal.

The Huskies found their footing in the second half, with Stephanie Yeager netting a goal coming off a free kick in the 62nd minute to cut the Rangers' lead to two at 3-1.

Despite chances off of corner kicks in the final frames of the contest, the Huskies ran out of real estate to pull off the comeback.

The Huskies offensive urgency in the second half brought the total shots to 18 compared to the Rangers 16. The Black & Gold also accounted for eight corner kicks, bettering Parkside's six.

Senior goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde made five saves on the day, while the Ranger's goalkeeper Mia Guyton stopped eight shots. 

The Huskies return to action next week, welcoming Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State to Kearly Stadium. The tilt with Saginaw Valley State is set for 7 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 16). The contest against Ferris State will take place at noon on Sunday (Sept. 18).
