HOUGHTON, Mich. – For the first time in almost a month, the Michigan Tech women's basketball team is back inside the SDC Gymnasium, hosting Purdue Northwest on Thursday and Parkside Saturday.

All home and GLIAC games will be streamed on FloSports. With one subscription, Michigan Tech fans can watch all home and conference games in volleyball, basketball, football, soccer, and hockey. About the Pride

Purdue Northwest travels north with an overall record of 9-12 and 4-7 in GLIAC play. Most recently, the Pride split with a win against Saginaw Valley (76-66) Thursday before falling to Wayne State (67-55) on Saturday.

PNW possesses a dual-threat with Mercedes Simmons who averages 16.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and a league-leading 2.5 blocks per game. She ranks top-10 in blocks per game and has posted eight double-doubles this season, ranking second in the GLIAC.

She is joined by guard Dash Shaw, leading the league with 17.7 points per outing with a league-high 107 free-throws, which also ranks top-20 in the country. 

As a team, the Pride are averaging 61.6 points per outing, with over 12 points coming from the charity stripe. 

In the first meeting, the Huskies bested Purdue Northwest 63-51.

About the Rangers

Parkside enters the week with a record of 12-7 overall and 7-4 in the GLIAC. The Rangers recently split a weekend of contests, falling to Wayne State (66-61) on Thursday before besting Saginaw Valley on Saturday (80-57). 

The Rangers have a notable win over then-ranked No. 5 Ferris State on Dec. 9 (79-70).

Sheridan Flauger and Paty Gallasova lead the Rangers offense with 11.7 and 11.4 points per game, respectively. 

As a team, UWP averages 74.9 points, with over 31 points coming from the Rangers bench, which ranks second in the league and 12th in the country. 

The Rangers are one of the best shooting teams in the country at a clip of 46.6 percent, ranking tops in the GLIAC and eighth in the nation.

The Huskies fell to Parkside 80-41 in the first meeting of the season. 

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech returns home following five-straight games away from the SDC Gymnasium, holding an overall record of 10-9 and a 6-5 ledger in the loop.

Most recently, the Huskies secured their third-straight win following a win at Lake Superior State (81-49) on Thursday, highlighted by senior Sara Dax scoring her 1,000th career point to become the 28th player in program history to join the 1,000-point club.

MTU wrapped up the weekend falling short at No. 7 Ferris State (63-54) on Saturday.

The Huskies are third in the nation, shooting 80.2 percent from the charity stripe, with Isabella Lenz having the 11th-best free-throw percentage, at a clip of 89.6 which ranks tops in the GLIAC. She also is the Huskies leading scorer with 12.6 points and a team-leading 3.8 assists.

Lenz and Alex Rondorf have scored in double-figures in the past three games, with Rondorf chipping in 9.2 points and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds.

The Black & Gold are getting almost 16 points from the bench as Alyssa Wypych (9.3) and Emma Anderson (4.3) lead the reserves.

On February 17, 2024, the 10 women's basketball programs of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) will come together to play five highly-competitive league games in the name of raising funds for life-saving cancer research, supporting under-resourced programs that provide access to quality cancer healthcare and uniting people in the fight against all cancers affecting women. One Last Thing

February 17 will also serve as the Alumni Game with a Hoop Zone Social providing snacks and drinks from 12:30 to 4:30 for all alumni and family. The men alumni will be introduced between the first and second quarter of the women's game on Tech's baseline while the women alumni will be recognized during the second media break in the first half of the men's game on Tech's baseline.
