BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Michigan Tech women's basketball team tied the game at 54-all with 5:52 to play before No. 7 ranked Ferris State scored nine unanswered points to extend their win-streak to eight games at the Jim Wink Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Michigan Tech (10-9, 6-5 GLIAC) saw its three-game win streak snapped by Ferris State (16-2, 10-1 GLIAC), who remain at the top of the league standings.

"We had a ton of fight and I thought we played great through three quarters, then in the fourth we were kinda careless with the ball and giving them easy transitions and we weren't getting good looks at the rim," head coach Sam Clayton said. "You can't do that against the No. 7 team in the nation because they are going to capitalize. The good news is we showed we can play and compete with the top teams in the nation. Now it's just finishing the fourth quarter better and taking care of the ball a little better–overall, I was happy with how we competed."

The two teams battled through the first half, with Michigan Tech leading by a point after 10 minutes of action (17-16) and Ferris State holding a one-point advantage heading into halftime (30-29).

The Huskies shot 48 percent from the field before the halftime break and held an edge in rebounds with 17 to the Bulldogs 15. Isabella Lenz and Chloe Idoni led their respective teams with 12 points.

Alyssa Wypych gave the Black & Gold its biggest lead of the third quarter after a 3-pointer made it 44-38 at the 3:15 mark. However, Mya Hiram scored four consecutive points for the Bulldogs to even the score at 47-all with 10 minutes to play.

The two teams had five lead changes in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter before Michigan Tech went scoreless the rest of the game. The Huskies had untimely turnovers down the stretch while the pesky Bulldogs continued to apply pressure before MTU elected to foul with less than a minute to play.

Free throws by Kenzie Bowers with 54 seconds to play would conclude the scoring for either team, seeing the Bulldogs win their eighth-straight with the final score showing 63-54.

Alex Rondorf led the Huskies with 15 points on 7-for-8 from the field, adding eight rebounds and four assists. Isabella Lenz also scored in double figures with 13 points and a team-high five assists. Katelyn Meister recorded a team-leading nine rebounds to go with seven points.

Chloe Idoni had a remarkable 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs.
