HOUGHTON, Mich. –  The Michigan Tech Nordic Ski teams conclude the 2023 calendar year at the Salomon CXC Cup over the weekend (Dec. 16 & 17) in Cable, Wisconsin. The Huskies will compete in the Classic Sprint on Saturday and the Skate Interval Start 10km on Sunday.

Michigan Tech opened the season last weekend in Duluth, Minnesota, at the Duluth CXC Cup at the Grand Avenue Nordic Center. The highlight of the weekend came from first year Axel Aflodal winning the freestyle sprint among a tough field that featured two-time U.S. National Champion Kristoffer Alm Karsrud.

In total, the Nordic Huskies saw four in the freestyle sprint finals in Aflodal, Wes Campbell (6th-place) while Marie Sølverud Wangen (5th-place) and Cat Stow (6th-place) made the women's final.

Sunday's Classic Interval Start showcased a four-pack of Huskies, led by Axel Aflodal in fifth-place (17:42.2), followed closely by Yanik Pauchard (18:00.9), Skylar Patten (18:06.1) and freshman Mikkel Katla (18:07.6).

Anabel Needham led the women in the Classic Interval Start with a fourth-place finish. Sølverud Wangen finished behind Needham in fifth, while Olivia Laven took 10th overall.

In the team standings, Michigan Tech placed second with 245 points, as Northern Michigan won the event with 283 points.
