Needham Earns CSC Academic All-America Honors

AUSTIN, Texas – Michigan Tech Nordic skier Anabel Needham has been tabbed to the 2022-23 Division II Academic All-America At-Large Second Team, the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) announced Thursday.

Needham, a native of Houghton, Michigan, is one of five recipients from the Division II level to earn this honor for two consecutive years, as she also earned Academic All-America At-Large Second Team honors last year.

Needham earned All-America honors in the 5km skate, placing eighth overall at the NCAA Skiing Championships in Lake Placid, New York. She achieved first team All-Region accolades in the 20km classic mass start and 5km freestyle interval start at the NCAA Central Regional Skiing Championships. Needham also earned All-Conference First Team honors at the CCSA Conference Championships. During the regular season she was either first or second in all CCSA classic races to go with first, second or third in all CCSA skate races. In the classroom, Needham holds a 3.96 GPA, majoring in Environmental Engineering. 

She also qualified for the U23 World Ski Championships and the FISU World University Games.  

The Division II at-large teams honored 50 student-athletes, with all 15 members of the first team earning 4.00 GPA's either as undergraduate or graduate students. A total of 29 of the 50 members had 4.00 GPA's.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division II Academic All-America® program.
