HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech came back from a 2-0 third-period deficit to tie Bemidji State 2-2 on Saturday (Jan. 2) at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The Beavers earned the extra CCHA point with a 2-1 win in the shootout.

"I'm really proud of the effort. We battled back and stole a point tonight," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "Anytime you can come back from a two-goal deficit against a good defensive team is huge. Every point in this league matters and will be important at the end of the season."

Tyrone Bronte got the Huskies on the board when he made a rush to the net and the puck slid under the goaltender and in with 6:14 left on the clock. Max Koskipirtti carried the puck through the neutral zone before dumping it to Bronte while Jed Pietila also assisted.

The Huskies pulled Blake Pietila for the extra attacker and then drew a power play after Arvid Caderoth was slashed with 25.8 seconds left. Coach Shawhan called a timeout and the Huskies responded.

Tech worked the puck around in the offensive zone before Isaac Gordon passed back to Matthew Campbell for a one-time blast through traffic and under the goalie to tie the game with 4.9 seconds left. Arvid Caderoth added the second assist and created traffic in front on Campbell's third of the season and second of the weekend.

Both teams had plenty of puck possession in overtime with Tech taking three shots on goal and the Beavers two.

Lleyton Roed and Eric Martin scored in the shootout for the visitors. Ryland Mosley scored for Tech, but Isaac Gordon was denied on a flip shot in round one, and Logan Pietila's attempt was saved in the third round.

Tech is now 10-10-5 overall and 7-6-1 in the CCHA after their 10th overtime game this season. The Huskies are 3-2-5 in the extra session and 2-3 in shootouts.

Bemidji State (9-14-1, 8-7-1 CCHA) scored twice in the first period. Kirklan Irey gave the Beavers the lead 8:00 into the game when he finished off a 2-on-1 with Adam Flammang.

Lleyton Roed added to the lead with a power play goal from Eric Martin and Eric Pohlkamp at 17:40 of the first.

Tech had a season-high 48 shots on goal with Mattias Sholl making 46 saves. Blake Pietila had 23 saves for the Huskies.

The Huskies hit the road next weekend to Lake Superior State for their only meeting of the season with the Lakers.
