Koskipirtti at Team Finland camp for World Junior Championships

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech freshman Max Koskipirtti has been named to Team Finland's training camp roster for the 2024 IIHF World Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden, on December 26-January 5.

Koskipirtti, a native of Espoo, Finland, has skated in all 19 games for the Huskies this season at center. He has tallied three goals and nine assists and is a plus-4. Koskipirtti scored the game-winning goal at Minnesota State (Nov. 25) and had a pair of assists against Augustana (Nov. 3).

Team Finland met Thursday in Vantaa and will travel to Sweden on Friday. Finland is playing two training camp games against Slovakia on Tuesday and the Czech Republic on Thursday. The final WJC roster will be named after training camp games. One defenseman and one forward will be trimmed from the lineup. After the training camp, the Finnish team will travel to Finland to spend Christmas with family and then return to Sweden on December 25.

Koskipirtti played for Team Finland at the 2023 World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth, Michigan in July and August. He has skated in 18 career games for Team Finland and has a goal and eight assists.

Before coming to Tech, Koskipirtti played the last three seasons for Kiekko-Espoo in the SM-sarja. He was an assistant captain in 2022-23 and tallied 39 points (14 goals, 25 assists) in 44 games.

Finland and Canada play the first game of the World Junior Championships on December 26. Other teams in Group A are host Sweden, Germany, and Latvia. Finland plays Germany on December 27, Latvia on December 29, and Sweden on December 31.

Lauri Mikkola is the coach of Team Finland and was at the Huskies' home opener against Alaska (Oct. 13). Koskipirtti scored the lone goal for Tech that night.

The last Husky to play in the World Junior Championships was Blake  Pietila when he won gold with Team USA in Ufa, Russia in 2013.
