HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball team hosts No. 24 nationally-ranked Northern Michigan Saturday, slated for a 3 p.m. tipoff.

About the Wildcats

Northern Michigan enters the week with its first Top-25 appearance in the NABC poll, coming in at No. 24 with a record 19-6 overall and 12-1 in the GLIAC, sitting atop the conference standings.

The Wildcats suffered its first conference loss of the season on Feb. 3, falling at Lake Superior State 74-68. Most recently completed a weekend sweep with wins over Parkside (81-67) Thursday and Purdue Northwest (69-66) on Saturday.

NMU had a notable comeback in Saturday's win over the Pride, scoring the final eight points after trailing 66-61 with 2:32 to play.

Scoring over 80 points per game, the Wildcats see four players in double-figure scoring, led by Max Weisbrod with 16.9. He is joined by Dylan Kuehl (16.5), Carson Smith (12.2) and Sam Schultz (10.0). 

Weisbrod has 70 3-pointers made this season, averaging 2.8 3-pointers per game, which ranks third in the league.

Sam Schultz, averaging a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds ranks fourth nationally with 249 rebounds this season. 

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech is fresh off its first weekend sweep with impressive wins over Purdue Northwest (77-61) Thursday night and Parkside (74-52) on Saturday. The Huskies have an overall ledger of 8-14 and 5-8 in the GLIAC.

The Huskies put together its best week of the season, winning by a margin of 19 points over the two games. MTU saw Dan Gherezgher post two double-doubles and a season-high 26 points in Thursday's win. 

In Saturday's win, the Huskies got vital minutes off the bench from Pete Calcaterra and Adam Hobson, who each chipped in 13 points, with Calcaterra adding seven rebounds.

MTU is one of the better teams in the league at guarding the 3-point line, holding opponents to just 34.1 percent from beyond the arc, ranking third in the GLIAC.

Marcus Tomashek remains the best scorer in the conference, with his 21.6 points per outing ranking him 15th in the country. The Green Bay, Wisconsin, native is nearing 500 points this season, with his 475 points ranking him first in the GLIAC and top-20 nationally. Pete Calcaterra grabs a team-leading 6.6 rebounds per game.

Northern Michigan took the win in the first meeting by a score of 98-66 at the Berry Events Center.

One Last Thing

The Huskies shot 54 percent from the field in both wins last week and are 4-0 when shooting over 50 percent for a game.
