HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball team begins its longest roadstand of the season this week, traveling to Parkside on Thursday (Jan. 18) and Purdue Northwest Saturday (Jan. 20) for two of the five total upcoming road contests.

About the Rangers

Parkside holds an overall standing of 8-7 with a GLIAC ledger of 3-2. Most recently, the Rangers fell in double overtime to Purdue Northwest (85-82) on Sunday.

UWP is well disciplined, taking only 13.6 fouls per game, which ranks ninth in the country and top of the GLIAC. Additionally, the Rangers have a top-20 defense, holding opponents to 65.7 points. Offensively, Parkside shoots almost 40 percent beyond the arc, which is 12th nationally, while making over 10 3-pointers per outing. The Rangers also take care of the ball well, with just over 10 turnovers a game, ranking first in the GLIAC.

Josiah Palmer leads the Rangers with five assists a game while chipping in 2.2 3-pointers per outing. Colin O'Rourke is the teams leading scorer and rebounder, with 13.4 and 6.3 rebounds a game. He was also tabbed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the double-overtime loss to Purdue Northwest.

About the Pride

Purdue Northwest is 8-7 overall and 2-3 in league play. The Pride started the New Year 1-2 with a most recent double overtime win against Parkside (85-82) on Sunday. 

Purdue Northwest produces almost 80 points and a top-25 ranking 40 rebounds per outing. PNW averages a league-high 26 3-point attempts a game, yet average 8.8 3-pointers made. 

The Pride have strength in numbers, with four players in double-figure scoring, led by CJ Jackson with 15.5 points per game while hitting over two 3-pointers an outing. Brendan Temple leads the conference in field goal percentage (58.4), contributing 13.3 points for the Pride.

Dalton Gayman controls the glass with a team-high 6.3 rebounds a game, although two other players average above five rebounds.

About the Huskies 

Michigan Tech is 5-10 overall and 2-4 in the loop. Most recently, the Huskies dropped two contests at home, falling to Ferris State (69-68) Thursday and Lake Superior State (78-55) Saturday.

Sophomore Josh Terrian erupted offensively for the Huskies on Thursday with 17 points and an impressive 4-for-5 from 3-point land, with Marcus Tomashek (20) and Dan Gherezgher (18) also making it into double-figure scoring. Gherezgher aso had a team-leading 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

In Saturday's game, junior Logan Giessler provided five points, four steals and three rebounds in 14 minutes for the Huskies.

Tomashek continues to be an offensive threat, averaging 23 points per game to lead the league and ranks eighth in the country. He has hit 86 free-throws this season, which ranks 15th nationally on over 84 percent from the charity stripe. The Green Bay, Wisconsin, native also shoots 41.3 percent from beyond the arc, averaging over three 3-pointers made per game.

Pete Calcaterra controls the glass with a team-leading 6.6 rebounds per game.
