About the Tritons

UMSL opened the 2023-24 campaign at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic in Lakeland, Florida. Like the Huskies, the Tritons had two close games to open the season. UMSL fell to Cedarville (75-70) on Nov. 4 before bouncing back the following day (Nov. 5) to upset No. 16 Bentley 76-73.

Matt Enright led the team in scoring, averaging 18.5 points per game and was named to the All-Tournament team. He was joined in double figures by Janeir Harris and Emanuel Prospere II with 13.5 points per game while Troy Glover II added 13 points and 10 points per outing.

Glover II was crucial for the Tritons, posting a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds in the win over Bentley. UMSL shot 50 percent from the field in the game and also won the rebound battle 38-31.

UMSL most recently fell to Winona State 74-67 on Thursday night (Nov. 16).

The Tritons were predicted to finish third in the GLVC and are led by Bob Sundvold in his 11th season at the Helm of UMSL.

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech faced quality opponents in their opening weekend of the 2023-24 season at the JustAGame Crossover. The Huskies opened with a loss against Missouri S&T (75-72) on Saturday (Nov. 11) before falling to Upper Iowa (93-87) on Sunday (Nov. 12) in a high-scoring affair.

Michigan Tech gained good experience yet didn't have enough to close out in the first two games. The Huskies saw efforts from the reserves in the Upper Iowa contest, with Nate Abel and Dawson Nordgaard combining for 15 of MTU's 38 points in the first half.

The game got interesting in the second half as Jake Hilmer poured on 29 of his 37 as the two teams combined for 115 total points. Michigan Tech scored 49 points on 44.1 percent from the field–yet it was not enough to complete a second-half comeback against the Peacocks.

Marcus Tomashek leads the Huskies with 24 points per game on 51.4 percent from the field. He also averaged 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists through two games. He also scored a team-high 27 points in the opening night against Missouri S&T.

Adam Hobson joins Tomashek in double-figure scoring, averaging 12.5 points and a team-leading six rebounds per game. Pete Calcaterra is also getting six boards a game and is just shy of averaging double-digit scoring with 9 points per game in the early season.

One Last Thing

Tomashek is off to a hot start offensively with his 24 points per game ranking 21st nationally and first in the GLIAC.
