Roger J. Hettinga
Inducted November 1, 1986

Roger Hettinga was a two sport athlete at Michigan Tech, he was involved in both football and wrestling for each of his four years at the University (1960-64).

On the grid iron Hettinga was an Academic All-America Honorable Mention his freshman campaign. In 1961 he was selected to the Northern States Collegiate Conference Defensive First Team and received a honorable mention to the Associated Press All-Michigan Team. In 1963 Hettinga was selected to the NIC All-Conference Team and was once again named to the AP All-Michigan Team. Hettinga finished off his college football career in 1964 with being named team captain and also voted by his teammates as Most Valuable Player.

On the wrestling mat Hettinga was awarded the Dean Frank Kerekes Wrestling MVP Award, the award is given to the wrestler scoring the highest number of team points in a season, all four of his years as a wrestler at Michigan Tech. Hettinga also holds the University record for most career team points scored. He was selected the All-Conference Team his Junior campaign (1962-63), after going undefeated on the season.

Hettinga who graduated from Michigan Tech in 1964 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, was also a member of the Varsity Club and Kappa Delta Psi fraternity. Hettinga was an active member of the Alumni Association and was also on the General Motors Corporate Recruiting Team for Michigan Tech. 

Hettinga passed away on September 2, 2000.
