HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech cross country and track and field head coach Kristina Owen has announced updates to the coaching staff for the 2022-23 athletic season. Robert Young has been promoted to Assistant Head Coach after one season as assistant coach for both cross country and track and field.

"Coach Young joined our team last year and brought with him a wealth of very hands-on skills for race tactics and metal prep," Owen said. "His outsized contribution to our team over the course of the year is reflected in his new title. He is one of the reasons we were so successful last season and I am thrilled to welcome his return and the next step in his coaching career."

Young came to the Huskies after nine years of coaching at Rampart High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he also taught science. He holds a master's of education from University of Missouri with an emphasis in positive coaching and a bachelor of science and teaching certificate from Grand Valley State University, where he graduated with honors in 2008.

Luke Moore has also been hired as Graduate Assistant Coach following a distinguished career as a student-athlete for the Huskies. He appeared in six outdoor track meets and excelled in the 5000 meter event at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships, placing sixth. He has previously been named Second Team All-GLIAC and a member of the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence team.

"Luke will focus on sprint events," said Owen. "Our returning athletes know Luke well. He was the president of our SAAC chapter and one of our distance captains. We know that Luke is capable of learning fast and picking up complex ideas. We are very excited to welcome him to the coaching staff and have another set of hands and eyes working with our sprinters."
