PREVIEW: Lewis Cross Country Crossover

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech men's and women's cross country is in competition for the third straight week Saturday for the Lewis Cross Country Crossover in Romeoville, Illinois. The race will feature 28 teams attending from 16 states with eight nationally ranked or receiving votes on the men's side and 11 teams on the women's side. The meet begins with a women's 6K at 10:45 a.m., followed by a men's 8K at 11:30 a.m. EST.

The Huskies are expected to bring a full slate of student-athletes, including Roy Griak Invitational winner Clayon Sayen (junior, Houghton, Michigan). 

Last week, the Huskies raced at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invite. The men placed eighth and the women were 10th. Isaac Steers (42nd), Logan Lukonic (45th), and Ben Holland (47th) were in the top 50 for the men. Miranda Meyers (33rd), Abby Martin (53rd), and Jenna Disser (99th) led the women. The Huskies race at the Lewis Crossover and the NMU Scrimmage (Saturday, October 16) ahead of the GLIAC Championships, hosted by Saginaw Valley State on October 23.

Michigan Tech men's cross country stayed at No. 6 in this week's USTFCCCA region poll. Neither team has been ranked inside the top-25 national rankings since week two when the men's team ranked No. 27 and the women clocked in at No. 28. Sayen was named GLIAC cross country player of the week on September 28 after taking first place in a field of 374 student-athletes at the Roy Griak Invitational.
