Cross Country Wraps Up Regular Season at U.P. Championships

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Michigan Tech cross country team concluded the regular season at the U.P. Championships on Friday (Oct. 20) from the NMU Golf Course in Marquette, Michigan.

Aiden Truettner crossed the finish line in first among attached runners,with the senior clocking in at 27:17.7 to edge out teammate and fellow senior Bernard Kluskens, who completed the 8K race in 27:29.7. Running neck-and-neck through the finish line for the Huskies was sophomore Patrick Acton and junior Reid Goble, with Acton narrowly finishing ahead with a time of 27:33.8 to Goble's 27:34.6.

Freshman Robert Dwyer also put in a good performance on the day with a time of 28:00.4. Also competing in today's race for Tech was Somer Schrock (28:04.2), David Jaszczak (28:09.2), Eric Houck (28:11.2), Jon Gietek (28:40.6), Tres Green (29:14.9), Aleksi Leino (29:22.0), Hunter Dercks (29:46.5), Mark Ousdigian (29:49.5), Josh Albrecht (30:05.6), and Brad Baas (30:29.3).

In the women's 5K race, Theresa Passe finished eighth overall and first among Michigan Tech runners with a time of 20:02.8. Henriette Semb crossed the line in 12th with a time of 20:19.0, followed closely by Molly Greene with a time of 20:23.2 to place 13th, and rounding out the point scorers for the Huskies was Katelyn Feldpausch in 16th (20:44.6) and Zoe Reep in 19th (21:41.6). Charlotte Wilkes also ran for the Huskies on Friday and finished 21st with a time of 22:22.4.

"It was a great effort by the men today," said head coach Jake Isaacson. "Aiden had a really great race, and he surprised all of us with his toughness and competitiveness today."

The Huskies will now turn their attention to postseason competition, beginning with the 2019 GLIAC Championships. Hosted by Purdue Northwest, the GLIAC Championships will be held on October 26 in Westville, Indiana. Michigan Tech performed well at last year's race in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with the women's team finishing second and the men placing third.
