Huskies topple Cards 5-2

MIDLAND, Mich. - Earning their third straight victory on the road, Michigan Tech women's tennis toppled Saginaw Valley State 5-2 Friday at Greater Midland Tennis Center. The Huskies took the team doubles point and carried momentum into singles to improve to 3-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this spring. Playing with a full complement of healthy players, the Huskies excelled at the top of the lineup.

Ivona Gorgioski was impressive en route to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles over Sara Neves. Dominika Bobic outlasted Emma Charleton at No. 2, coming back to win after dropping the first set 4-6, 7-6 (5), 10-4. Lauren Opalewski and Neva Manas picked up wins in both singles and doubles for MTU.

"Today was great as we finally had a full lineup for the first time in a while," said head coach Kristen Yep. "We played very smart and it showed in the results. Looking forward to another good match tomorrow against Northwood."

The Huskies (3-4) continue in lower Michigan with matches against Northwood Saturday and Wayne State (make-up) Sunday.
