HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Michigan Tech women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 non-conference loss to the University of Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday in match three of the Spring Tennis Fest tournament held in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Huskies are now 10-6 overall with two more contests to go in South Carolina this week.

"Today we fought really hard, but we came up just short in crucial moments," Michigan Tech Head Coach Kristin Yep said. "It was an eye opener to what we need to work on to break through to the next level."

Michigan Tech (10-6) faced an early deficit when Missouri-St. Louis (3-1) grabbed a 1-0 edge in doubles competition. Lauren Opalewski and Dominika Bobik paired up to take on Hannah Burth and Maja Lietzau in No. 2 doubles and defeated the Tritons duo 6-3. Ivona Gorgioski and Jessica Brown were in the No. 1 spot in the doubles lineup and lost to Marina Prediger and Odette Beagrie 6-2.

The Huskies continued to battle in singles and in the No. 6 spot Golac logged a three-set victory and a point for Tech. Golac outlasted Lopez Bueno 6-1, 4-6, and 10-2 to take home the victory, which was her 11th singles win of the year. Opalewski went toe-to-toe with Lietzau in No. 4 singles, but fell just shy by scores of 7-6, 4-6, and 9-11. Bobik played well in No. 2 singles against Beagrie, but suffered similar results with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-10 decision in three sets.

In Wednesday's other three contests, Lunge got past Manas 6-3, 7-6 in the No. 5 spot in the lineup. Brown fell to Burth 6-2, 6-0 in No. 3 singles and Gorgioski lost to Prediger 6-2, 6-2 in the No.1 position in the lineup.
