The Michigan Tech women’s soccer program has had one head coach in its history. Six winning seasons, a GLIAC regular season title and two NCAA Tournaments in 10 years of the program’s existence can all be linked to Michelle Jacob, who has posted a 94-70-14 record (.567 winning percentage).

Michigan Tech closed the 2016 season with an overall record of 12-4-3, finished third in the GLIAC regular season standings, and advanced to the GLIAC Tournament title game. Tech just missed out on a spot in the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament. Jacob led the team to its fifth straight postseason appearance and in addition the Huskies hosted their fourth GLIAC Tournament game in prorgam history. Kirsen Hudak and Jaci Mielke were both GLIAC 1st Team All-Conference selections.

During the 2015 campaign, the Huskies went 9-6-2 overall and 6-5-1 in league play. They lost in a shootout at Ashland in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal round.

In 2014, Tech compiled an 11-5-2 overall record and 8-2-2 mark in GLIAC play. The Huskies hosted a GLIAC Tournament game for the third straight year and advanced to the semifinal. The Black and Gold also made their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament, garnering a No. 3 seed in the Midwest Region.

Jacob led the 2013 team to the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Huskies finished with a 14-6-1 overall record and a 9-2-1 mark in the GLIAC—good for second place overall. Tech also played in its first GLIAC Tournament Championship game and made an appearance on ESPN Sportscenter’s Top 10 Plays after a last-second, game-winning goal by Lindsey Van Rooy in the quarterfinal round of the GLIAC Tournament. Kaitlyn Boelter and Van Rooy were named to the Daktronics Midwest Region First Team and NSCAA Midwest Region Second Team. Boelter was also an All-GLIAC First Team selection and Van Rooy was named GLIAC Honorable Mention.

In 2012, Jacob led the Huskies to a 14-3-2 overall mark and a share of the GLIAC regular season title with an 11-1-1 record. For her efforts she garnered GLIAC Coach of the Year accolades. The team defeated Tiffin in the first GLIAC playoff game played in Houghton before falling to Saginaw Valley in a shootout in the semifinals. Three players, Lindsey Van Rooy, Kaitlyn Boelter and Melanie Hoffman, earned All-GLIAC accolades. In addition, Hoffman was named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America team.

Jacob joined the Huskies after serving as the head coach at Marian, posting a 32-24-1 record in three seasons (2007-09). The program was 4-12-1 the year prior to her arrival and finished 11-7-1 in her final season and earned a Northern Athletics Conference Tournament semifinal berth. Her 2008 squad set school records for regular season wins and longest winning streak.

Prior to taking over at Marian, Jacob spent three seasons as the assistant women’s soccer coach at Wisconsin-Stevens Point under an NCAA Women and Ethnic Minority Grant. She helped lead the Pointers to a 36-16-5 overall record and a 16-5-3 mark in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. She also worked as the assistant to the athletic director handling event management for all sports and advising UWSP’s Student-Athletic Advisory Committee.

Jacob turned in a stellar four-year playing career at UW-Stevens Point while earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She was an All-America First Team selection and the WIAC Player of the Year in 2001. The midfielder was a key component in the Pointers compiling a 75-15-2 record and four WIAC titles. She is a member of the UW-Stevens Point Hall of Fame and the WIAC Hall of Fame and was one of 24 players selected to the WIAC All-Time Women’s Soccer Team.

In addition to her coaching duties, Jacob is an instructor in Michigan Tech’s Department of Exercise Science and Health and Physical Education.
