Soccer falls 5-0 at Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team fell 5-0 to the #1 nationally ranked Lakers on Friday (Oct. 22.). The Lakers struck twice in the first half and three more times in the second half to secure the victory. With the loss, the Huskies fell to 9-5 on the season and 6-4 in the GLIAC.

"It was a tough loss today, but we do not have time to dwell on it as a team," Coach Turk Ozturk said. "We have to be ready to bounce back on Sunday. We have to be mentally tough and quickly be able to move on to the next one."

After a relatively quiet first 18 minutes of action, the Lakers would get on the board. Taylor Reid would score for the home team with a header that sailed just out of the reach of the goalkeeper. The assist came from Radamaker.

Michigan Tech would have a good chance to answer after Brooke Schauer pitched a nice header over the top of the defense. A nice play from the Lakers goalkeeper Robertson would prevent Julia Pietila from having a good look at the net as the shot went wide left.

The Lakers would add one more right before the break in the 43rd minute. Chantel Carranza would slide a shot past the goalkeeper for the two goal advantage at the break.

The Lakers would go on to add three more tallies in the second half of play. Catie Baron found the net twice in the 61st and 63rd minute. GLIAC scoring leader Greta Deloach would score her 16th of the season in the 73rd minute of play.

The Huskies were outshot 13-3 for the contest and trailed 6-1 in shots on goal. Gabby Sgambati was the lone Husky to get a shot on net in the game.

The Black and Gold return home this Sunday (Oct. 24) to take on another top ten team in the country in Ferris State. The Bulldogs are 11-1-2 overall and 8-0-2 in the GLIAC. They are coming off of a 6-0 win over Purdue Northwest on Friday.
