Mackay and Trotter Earn All-GLIAC Honors

ASHLAND, Ohio – Michigan Tech sophomore Ellie Mackay and junior Cassidy Trotter have been selected as Second Team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honorees, announced Friday night by the conference office. Mackay and Trotter emerged as top players for the Huskies and in the conference during the 2019-20 season.

Mackay, who hails from Novi, Michigan, averaged 12.2 points per game for the Huskies this season, second most on the team. Mackay was the 2019 GLIAC Freshman of the Year and earned GLIAC North Division Player of the Week honors in week five of the season. Mackay converted 84.6 percent of her free throw attempts and knocked down a team high 39 three-point buckets. Mackay established new single game career highs in points (27) and three-point field goals made (7) against Davenport on February 20. Mackay averaged 2.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per contest in 28 games played this year.

Trotter, a native of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, led Tech in scoring thanks to a 12.3 points per game average. Trotter was a Second Team All-GLIAC and All-Defensive Team selection following the 2018-19 campaign. Trotter earned GLIAC North Division Player of the Week honors in week six of this year. Trotter ranks fourth in the conference in free throw shooting percentage (85.1%), sixth in assists per game (3.7), and is tied for first in steals per game (2.8) going into the weekend. Trotter recorded a new single game career high of 25 points against Ashland on January 4. She pulled down a career best 10 rebounds at Purdue Northwest January 11, and matched a career high of seven steals at home against Northern Michigan December 15.

Despite a tough loss in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals at Grand Valley State Tuesday, the Huskies finished the regular season strong, recording wins in three of their last four games. One of those victories was a 51-48 decision at rival Northern Michigan in the season finale. Tech swept the season series from the Wildcats with two wins. The Huskies also advanced to the GLIAC Tournament for the 30th consecutive year and now will head into the offseason to prepare for the 2020-21 campaign.
